GORR March 2011

Walking off of stage in Peterborough at the Broadway Theatre on the last Saturday in February at last gave me the feeling that the year had truly started. With Chatham coming up on the 4th of March and Norwich on the 12th and Colchester on the 26th this month is a nice mixture of many different areas of work and play.

On the 1st I filmed a short tribute to my dear friend Norman Wisdom which will be shown at his tribute lunch on Sunday 6th which is being hosted by The Heritage Foundation. Unfortunately I can't get to it, so filming a short piece to camera was the next best thing.

On the 2nd I am going to the BBC to record an interview for the popular radio programme The Organist Entertains. They are doing a special feature on Hammond Organs and I suppose as I own 6 of them they guessed I quite like them!

On Wednesday 9th I am back at the BBC but this time recording a long interview with Aled Jones for his BBC Wales programme. I expect we'll cover loads of different areas and as Aled is a friend, then I'm sure it will be more of a chat than a standard interview!

On Wednesday 16th I am one of the presenters who will be giving out the Community Awards at Blackfriars Hall in Norwich and these awards are for people who have overcome personal difficulties and problems in achieving their goals.

On the 20th I am one of a group of people giving out awards at The Unsung Heroes event at the Savoy. I have no idea exactly what I will be doing, but I suspect it will be a very moving evening.

Amongst all these engagements, loads of other things are going on including work on a track for a very talented Italian singer called Valentina and whilst this is going on the studio is being given a complete update where new computer stuff is being fitted and I give thanks for the fact that I have someone like Erik Jordan who actually understands how it all works!!!

4 studio days are also allotted to pre-record my radio show for radio Nova in Dublin and assisting me as ever is David Hoffman, (Hoffy to former Planet Rock listeners). This show is great fun to do and gives me many opportunities to insult The Hoff!!!

The pilot radio programmes with Mark Jeeves are in their final makings and hopefully will have a happy ending with a regular programme back on radio. There is already huge interest from America for this show and so we all have high hopes.

I'm just waiting on confirmation of the additional filming dates for watchdog, (which I am thoroughly enjoying being a part of) and are great fun to film.

I am also making "creative" time for myself each month where I am deliberately keeping complete days free to create in what ever genre I feel like for the day, whether it be music, film, books, television or radio. This is very important to me and this year I really aim to get the creative juices really flowing again.

Finally, I've been putting the final touches to this years 4 Churches Festival and in my next GORR I'll be able to tell you who's coming, although by then you may already know as it'll be up on the web site!!!

Have a great March…Rick
